Vista Icons Ever since you upgraded or installed Vista, you've probably noticed that the icons on your desktop are a little bigger than the earlier versions of Windows. You've probably noticed also that the text that comes along with those icons is larger as well. Or, who knows, maybe neither of them are big enough to meet your preferences. So, how can you change them? First, Right-Click on your desktop and go to View. Once the pull over menu appears, you'll see the first three choices of Large, Medium and Classic Icons. Your icons right now are probably set on Medium, so if you want to make them smaller or larger, choose either Larger or Classic. Just click on your choice and the icons will automatically change for you.
Now, I will tell you that the Larger choice makes the icons very big and they will take up most of your desktop space, but it will also help with those that have poor eyesight. The Classic choice will make your icons the size they were in XP. So, the choice is yours, but at least you now know how to modify them when you're looking for a change! ~ Andrew Did you like this tip? Let us know by rating or adding to it here: --- Time to Vote! Never Let It Happen Again! What A GREAT Way To Remind Yourself When It's Time!
No More Having To Rely On Your Memory... Just Put It On "Auto-Pilot" Instead! We all have busy schedules nowadays. Let's face it, trying to remember ANYTHING is a challenge! But remembering to take your medication, now that's important. Actually, it's more than important...it's critical! No jokes, no kiddin' around. For some, it could literally, be a matter of life or death. For something so important, you may find that having some type of system to remind you when it's time to take your medication is a great idea. (And don't say, "Yeah, it's my wife/husband." Nice try...gotcha!) Really, having a way to systematically and automatically remind you when it's time to take your medication is important. Thankfully, I don't take medication, but I do take vitamins...a bunch! And it's just as important for me to remember to take them when I should. And I really needed a way to remind myself when to do that. So when I saw this, I thought this was a great idea! No more forcing myself to remember when to take my vitamins! This automatic dispenser does it for me! It's simple, easy and foolproof! Mine kind of system! The concept is so simple and it makes so much sense, I'm surprised that every pharmacy doesn't issue one of these with every prescription they give out! How it works is like this: you put your pills in one of the three compartments. Then you set the timer and it counts down the time to when you need to take your medication! You can set it to countdown anytime within 24 hours! You can use the three compartments to help you stay organized if you take different pills. Or you can use it to store several days' worth of medication - whichever way works best for you! If you take all of your pills at once, no problem! Set the countdown timer once and that's it! But if you need to take one set of pills at a certain time and two hours later take another pill, that's easy too. Just put your pills for the day in the compartments, set the countdown timer to go off when you need to take your first set of pills. Then, set it again to notify you when you need to take your next pill! So, this won't make your computer run faster or show you how to make super-cool graphics. But it may do something even more important...help keep you around a little longer by keeping you healthy! We're making this available for you, our customers, at a really low price...just so you can be sure to get one if you need it. Yeah, it's THAT important! So you can get this right now for just $9.97 for as long as we have 'em! BUT Just Wait... Order TODAY and we'll DOUBLE The Deal!!! That's right - you'll get TWO for just $9.97 - but only if you order TODAY - 07-03-2009! Less than $5 each - now it's CRAZY not to grab it! (Oh, and if you need more than two, just add another to your cart and we'll DOUBLE that too!) And just so you know, the reason we're able to offer this at such a low price is because this is a "close out" item! That means, when these are gone, they're gone! WE can't get any more, so neither can you! So get however many you need for yourself and your loved ones right now! Stay well and healthy and then come back and visit us here on the Web!!! http://store.worldstart.com/ P.S. After you order yours, feel free to send this email to a few of your friends so they can pick one up too! Thanks! BONUS - Remember, order today (07-03-2009) and we'll toss in a FREE Sudoku game too! "WOW!! This Is Too Easy!" Turn Your Digital Photos Into Amazing, Professional Looking Greeting Cards, Invitations, Announcements and A Lot More!! If You Can "Point and Click", You Can Turn Out Amazing Print Projects! Do It With Just A Few Clicks of Your Mouse...Literally!! You've Just GOT To See How This Works!!!
If you've been wanting to create some really awesome print projects but have felt overwhelmed or didn't even know where to begin, this program is for you! It's called, "Photo Projects" and the reason why this works so well is because they've really designed everything for you! They have over 41,000 templates and images...already there, ready for you to use! You just have to select the designs and images you want to go into your own personally designed print project! It's so simple! It's like a Chinese Menu..."I'll take this from column A and this from column B!" That's about how easy this is. I wanted to see how quickly and easily I could design a project. Take a look, I'll show you exactly what I did to complete this design project in less than 5 minutes! The first thing you see is all of the different types of design categories. There are 21 different design projects. Here's just a few of them:
Once you select the category you want, then just pick which design within that category you'd like! Oh, and there are over 2,860 designs to choose from! For my "test" design project, I picked the "Holiday" design category. In the next screen, I was given a choice of which holiday design I wanted. (Christmas, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc.) Being so close to the 4th of July, that's the one I went with. Then I had a choice of 8 different 4th of July designs! This is the one I picked. Once I clicked on the design I wanted, I then could "personalize" my card my typing in a message. (All I did was click on a link and start typing....they even showed me the box to type in!) I could even add music to the card if I wanted to. How? By just clicking on one of those round "radio" buttons! To make it even more personal, I could select the background image! How? Click on a "drop down" box and click on the one I wanted! I decided to leave it at the "default" background...which was a background of Seattle!
I could add my own photos if I wanted to. Again, point, click, drag and drop...it really doesn't get much easier than that!!! I just threw in the first one I could find. Keep in mind this wasn't a real "design" project for me. I just wanted to see how fast I could put something together and if it was really THAT easy...which it is! Anyway, I then clicked on the "Preview" tab to see the final result! So what do you think? Not bad for a couple of clicks, heh? Keep in mind, I could have done a lot more to really "jazz it up" and personalize it as much as I wanted. But I just wanted to run through a project real quick to show you how quick and easy it is. And like I said, I did this is less than 5 minutes! But you can take your time and make your cards and print projects as detailed, "flamboyant" and personalized as you want!
Next, I clicked on the "Share, Print or Burn DVD" tab and the screen shot below is the screen I was then taken to. As you can see, I could email my card, post it to a blog or webpage, print it out on my own printer or even burn it to a DVD (obviously, you have to have a DVD burner to do that one!) And all of those were by...yep, just clicking on the appropriate tab! The program walks you through every step of the way! If you want to email it, post it to your web or blog page or burn it to a DVD, you're taken to a screen that actually does it for you! All you do is create your own personal on-line account (it's free!) so all of your files are kept private and only you can access them, click on the tab of what you want to do and it's done! They even have "Premium" messages that you can send if you want to. (The "premium" packages do cost extra, so I "passed" on those, but that's just me!)
There you have it! That's all there is to it! I just showed you what I did to create this design that I created above. Oh, and by the way, I ended up emailing it to myself, just to go through the whole process. And I have to tell you, when I got my own message in my email inbox, I was really impressed! (I decided to add some music to it, so when I opened my email message the music started playing, and there was the card! And I did it in less than 5 minutes! Very cool...and very easy!!! Think of all the ways you can use this! You can create birthday cards, anniversary cards or just crazy, fun cards to send out to your friends or family! (Heck, it's an excuse to stay in touch with 'em, right?) You'll be designing and sending out your own personalized cards in no time flat! And the best part is that you don't have to pay $30, $40 or even more for similar programs. You can grab this right now here on today's special for just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE!!! http://store.worldstart.com/ P.S. If you've ever wanted to design and create your own projects, this is the program for you! Why not get it now while it's dirt cheap? BONUS - Remember, order today (07-03-2009) and we'll toss in a FREE Sudoku game!

Now, one more little trick. If you want to get all the Windows back to their original size (restored) just click that "Show desktop" icon again. ~David Did you like this tip? Let us know by rating or adding to it here:
AutoCorrect and Symbols Do you use a lot of symbols in MS Word? I bet some of you know how to set shortcut key combinations for quick insertion of symbols, right? If so, do you ever find yourself frustrated when you're trying to remember a key combination to use that you know is available? I mean, it surely makes enough sense that you should remember it. Yeah, that happens to me too. So, you've got to wonder what other options are out there. Well, today, I'd like to suggest using the AutoCorrect feature for some of your symbol shortcuts. To begin, go to the Insert menu, Symbol choice. When the Symbol window opens, locate the symbol you need and click on it, just like normal.
It's at this point that we head off to the AutoCorrect feature using the AutoCorrect button located on the bottom left side. When the AutoCorrect window opens, the symbol you selected will already be filled in and all you need to do is enter the characters that should initiate the AutoCorrect replacement.
For example, maybe you need to use the math symbol for "not equal to." You might use "not=" as the keyword to trigger the symbol replacement, but if you can't remember a keyword so obvious, you're probably not going to remember anything else either. It goes without saying that you do need to be careful with your choice of characters used to signal the AutoCorrect you use to make the exchange. You don't want to pick anything that's a legitimate word or character combinations you may need to use for real. You don't want Word accidentally creating gibberish of your document, now do you? When you're done, click the Add button to register the entry and then click OK to return to the Symbol window. Once there, click the Close button to return to your document. That's it. A whole new way to quickly insert symbols, without all the menus and searching! ~ April Did you like this tip? Let us know by rating or adding to it here:

The Term-inator I remember when I first started wrestling with my pc and hearing the tidal wave of jargon I had to sift thought and interpret in order to figure out what's going on. It's like learning a new language filled with everything from extremely technical terms, to almost silly terms, and some very far-reaching acronyms. Today my focus is going to be on security terms that are used regularly when discussing security issues. We can benefit greatly by being familiar with them. You may already be familiar with some of these terms from past articles or personal experience, but when it comes to security repetition is key. Anti-virus : Software that scans your pc for viruses, worms, and trojans using up-to-date virus signatures. Once found, the program can remove, or quarantine the virus and (ideally) keep it from performing whatever malicious duties is was sent to do. Backdoor: This is sometimes referred to as a trapdoor, and is a feature in programs that the original programmer puts into the code in order to fix bugs or make other changes that need to be made. However, if this information becomes known to anyone else it poses a potential security risk. Hijacking: An attack whereby an active, established, session is intercepted and used by the attacker. Hijacking can occur locally if, for example, a legitimate user leaves a computer unprotected. Remote hijacking can occur via the Internet. HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure): This is a version of http that is far more secure and is used (or should be used) in areas of the web where sensitive information is being used or exchanged. Key: These are the names of Windows Registry components that are responsible for keeping the settings in Windows. Every time a program gets added to or uninstalled from a pc the Registry gets changed. If a virus gets into your system and makes changes to your registry keys it can cause serious performance changes. Key loggers: These are used in legitimate programs but have been a favorite of hackers for years. Basically, what a key logger does is log your keystrokes for however long it is configured for. Hackers use these types of programs to find important information like usernames and passwords for sensitive accounts or highly secure areas. @mm: This is usually seen at the end of a virus name i.e. W32netsky@mm and signifies that this virus is a mass mailer. A mass mailer is the term for a virus that upon infection can mail itself out to email addresses that it harvests from various areas of your hard driveespecially your address book. Sometimes you will see the designation with only one "m" at the end of the virus name this stands for mailer and this kind of virus can only ride along with email messages you send. Here are some more security terms that you should become familiar with. There'll be a quiz next weekjust kidding ;-) Macro virus: Code written to take advantage of 'Hotkey" abilities to deliver it's payload or replicate. Macros are hotkeyskey combinations that you can record and link to a single or fewer keystrokes. Payload: This is the portion of the virus that is released into your system, it isn't always destructive but is always unwanted. Port: The protocol stack TCP/IP which is the protocol of the Internet (for the most part). There are several small parts to an Internet address, or IP address. While the IP address is your logical location on the web, the port number is an identifier for the service you would like to use on the system you're connecting to. Protocol: A set of rules and standards to govern the exchange of data between computers and related devices. There are protocols in almost every aspect of computers from web design to programming to network administration. Replication: After a virus successfully infects a PC it usually starts to copy itself. Then it tries to infect either different parts of your system, or other systems, usually through address books or shared network files. This is usually one of the chief missions of a virus and by means of replication viruses can grow and infect new systems at an exponential rate. Security response: The process of research, creation, delivery, and notification of responses to viral and malicious code threats, as well as operating system, application, and network infrastructure vulnerabilities. SMTP: Simple Mail Transport Protocol. This is an email protocol that is responsible for moving mail from mail server to mail server. Variant: A modification to the original virus code in an attempt to either throw antivirus software companies off, or create a different effect from the virus. Virus definitions file: These are data files used by antivirus programs to help them identify and deal with viral attempts to infect your system. What this does is let you bring your "still" images to life by "panning" across pictures and zooming in and out! And the program lets you choose the "begin" and the "end" views for a photo! For example, the slide can start with the focus exclusively on a small section of a photo and then the view can zoom out and pan in any direction to shift focus to an entirely different area! You've complete control over the focal shift. Here's the section of the program that shows you EXACTLY HOW TO DO IT!
But hang on...we're not done yet! Next you can choose slide transitions! Instead of just slapping them up on the screen, the software does these awesome scrolls, zooms in / out, fades, etc.! It really looks like it was done in a professional studio! In fact, there are tons of different "styles" you can choose from to give the show the exact "look" you're going for! It's sooo cool - you'll have a blast putting your production together! And of course no "professional" level video presentation would be complete without audio, would it? So, let's add some music or even your own voice! Oh yeah, we're ready for the BIG LEAGUES!!! So what do you do with your slideshow once it's been created? Tons! OK, first off, what if you want a CD or DVD to show off on your home TV set? Hey - that's my favorite use for this! Just save your show to a DVD or CD - either of which will play on ANY standard DVD player!! That's right - just pop in a standard CD-R or DVD-R and create a movie - no special CDs, DVDs or burners required! Oh, and the "saving" options don't stop there! Want to publish your slide show directly on the Web? No problem! You can share your creation your photo slide shows with friends and family online at sites like MySpace, YouTube and other social Websites! Want more? You can convert your photo slide show for use on an Apple iPod, Sony PSP players, most MP3 players that support video, even cell phones that are "media enabled"! WOW!!! Talk about customized production! You've got it all! Oh, and wait till you see this - It also INCLUDES A CD / DVD LABEL MAKER! That's right...no need to buy another program to design and create you DVD labels...it's already included! Don't just hand out a "blank" disc when you can design and print personalized CD and DVD disc labels and cover sheets! Now you can make your DVD presentation complete and give it that professional "polished" look! And with the templates and easy to follow tutorials you'll turn out awesome labels in no time! This is GREAT way to archive and preserve your photos and home videos. You can organize an entire year's worth of pictures and put them on a CD or DVD! Plus, do it fast and easy. And you can even hand out copies to everyone you know. Great for family events like weddings, graduations, parties, you name it!
