Special Note - Please forgive us if you received this twice today - our mail list server had a problem and we had to resend the entire newsletter. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Have a terrific day! Firefox 3.5 Released
The busy bees over at Mozilla have released version 3.5 of Firefox unto the masses. Normally, this wouldn't be too big of a deal, even for a fox follower like myself, but the developers are touting some pretty major features and improvements this time around. It warrants a look, so here's a quick run-down. Faster Browsing – Mozilla states that Firefox 3.5 runs almost twice as fast as 3.0. This is due to a new kind of JavaScript engine that processes incoming information more efficiently. Private Browsing – Taking a token from Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8, Firefox users are now able to surf the Internet with total anonymity. Nothing from your session is kept except downloads and saved bookmarks. Better late than never, I guess! Tear off Tabs – Tab bar getting too cluttered, but you don't want to re-browse to a site? Just grab a tab and rip it off! You'll be given a whole new window to work with! There's also a host of other improvements to existing stuff like Session Restore, the Awesome Bar, Customization, History Clearing and anti phishing and malware protocols. If you're a Firefox user click Help>Check for Updates to get the new version! For more info, go over to Mozilla.com for a more detailed rundown. Happy Browsing! ~Andrew I love regular browser updates! Let us know what you think by rating or adding to this tip here: --- Fantastic job everyone! I guess we'll have to stop pulling our punches, eh? It's true: Vaporware is software or hardware that is promised and never released. A prime example of this is the PC game Duke Nukem Forever, which has been in development for almost 12 years! I wonder if gamers will ever get to see that one? Here are the results:

Q: A: In Windows XP: 1. Hit the Start>Control Panel , then go to Performance and Maintenance link). Then, open the Power Management icon . 2. Look for the " Turn off monitor " drop box. Select the amount of time you want the computer to wait before shutting off the monitor, or tell it not to shut the monitor off at all.
In Windows Vista: Hit Start>Control Panel then double-click the "Power Options" icon. From here, click on "Change Plan Settings" under your currently selected plan.
Under "Turn off the Display" set it to "Never" or another desired time, and click "Save Changes"

Selecting Just a Portion We all know that MS Word will try to help you out when highlighting text. In fact, if it thinks it's what you want to do, it will select an entire word for you even if your cursor started out in the middle of the word. This can be a great time saver - or a great big headache! Obviously, it all depends upon what you want. Many of you probably know that you can turn this feature off in Word's options. (See the Computer Tips article "That's Not What I Selected!" for users of older versions of Word. For Word 2007 people you need the Advance Options, Editing Options section and then uncheck "When selecting, automatically select entire word".) But, let's face it - if we turn the feature off because it's bothering us right now then when we want it later we've got to go back and turn it on. So, as far as I'm concerned - that's out. For my keyboard enthusiasts you're thinking about the Shift key combined with arrows to get the job done. Excellent choice, but what about the people who like to use the mouse? Can they temporarily get around the whole word selection problem? You bet. If you're a mouse user then here's what you need to know:
In older versions of Word you may have the same issue on the other end of your highlighting if you're trying to select a partial word from the left side. Just use the same trick and move the mouse back slightly to get just the letters you want. Word 2007 you may find behaves a bit better. Once you stop the whole word highlight with the mouse movement it doesn't start up again during that particular selection. Voila! Select exactly the text you need without making huge changes to your Word options. ~ April Did you enjoy this Office Tip? Let us know by rating or adding to it here:

Speed Up Your Vista Searches The Search Box in Windows Vista searches for files, Windows contacts, Windows Mail, history and favorites by default. That seems like an awful lot to go through, doesnt it? Thank goodness, you can customize the search results from the Start menu search box to only return the results you really want. I'm the kind of guy that uses the Search Box to pull up applications, and rarely anything aside from that. To configure this setting, right-click on the Start button and select Properties. Next, click on the Customize button and scroll down until you see the checkboxes under the Search section. Here's a shot of my screen with all of my settings in place:
For the best results, change the Search Files option to "Don't search for files." The Start menu is too small to find files anyway. Making that change will speed up the search process immensely. Here are the details for what the other options do:

This is a super fun site where people submit photos of things that totally look alike! Navigation is setup blog style so just scroll down the page, and click the Next button or the page number you’d like to go to. Some of the look-a-likes are obviously trying to look like the other image as sort of homage to the original, and some are just coincidental and that makes them even funnier! If you’d like to make your own looks like image you’ll need to use the Look-Alike Builder, which can be found on the brown navigation strip near the top of the page. This will take you to the Builder application where you can start creating your look-a-likes! You’ll need to either upload a picture or pick one from the ones they’ve provided you with. You’ll build the left side of the image first and once you’re done with that side, you’ll work on the right side. Once you’ve got the image how you want it click the blue save button, then fill out the form with your e-mail address, decide whether you want an I Can Has Cheeseburger account, and then click Save again. I made a really fast one, you can see it here. I thought this site was super fun, I hope you will too! ~Amanda Woah, I spent a lot of time on that Cool Site!
